Sip, Savor & Celebrate: Clementine Brews Up Tradition with First Afternoon Tea

Clementine is entering its Victorian era on Saturday, March 2, starting at 11:30 a.m., with its first afternoon tea.

The time-honored tradition, which will kick off and is in celebration of Women’s History Month, will begin with gougeres and sparkling wine upon arrival. Guests will then have the chance to indulge in a tea service featuring a variety of flavorsome Harney & Sons Teas and a tiered tea stand brimming with savories and sweets, artfully prepared by chefs and husband-and-wife duo John and Elise Russ, respectively.

Savory offerings will include the classic cucumber sandwich, smoked salmon pretzel roll, pissaladière and a tartine of whipped Bulgarian feta and caviar. Sweet cravings will be satisfied with a selection of tea pastries, including profiteroles with lavender cream, Meyer lemon coconut tarts, petit strawberry shortcake and coffee hazelnut mille-feuille. Afternoon tea wouldn’t be complete without scones, served with lemon curd, jam and Devonshire cream.

The early years of Chef Elise’s career, when she prepared afternoon tea at The Four Seasons in London and The Peninsula in Chicago, and Pastry Assistant Andie O’Brien’s recent trip to London, inspired the event. “Andie and I have been wanting to offer a Clementine afternoon tea for some time, and with Women’s History Month upon us, it felt like the perfect opportunity to blend the two,” said Pastry Chef and Co-Owner Elise Russ. “We hope our guests will use this opportunity to celebrate the women in their lives.”
